Transfer Cases for Workover Rigs

Cotta Transmission’s TR2205 three gear transfer case is being used in workover rigs, and other custom chassis where standard offerings from other manufacturers just aren’t strong enough.  What sets this gearbox apart from others is that it is designed to handle more load, and keeps going as others run out of steam.

Cotta designed the transfer case for maximum application flexibility. The T-case has mirror symmetry and provides four identical input/output stations.  Each station has a 2.75 x 10 splined shaft, and can be fitted with yokes or flanges.  A disconnect (de-clutch) can be fitted to the I/O stations to provide power interruption.  An optional line of disconnects features SAE pump pad outputs.  A special version of this model can be configured as a transfer case, drop box, PTO, or pump drive. Most options are available for field retrofit without having to return, remove, or disassemble the gearbox.

High-Speed Gearbox for R&D Test Stand

Cotta has designed and manufactured a diverse line of high-speed gearboxes that are used by some of the largest OEM companies in the world for numerous R&D and production test stand applications for automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications.  This gearbox is high-speed and was designed for a customer’s R&D test stand application.  The gearbox will be going through extensive testing prior to being sent out to the customer. In addition to systematically and comprehensively monitoring the quality of all internal processes, first-piece inspection is conducted on every machining sequence, and every transmission is tested prior to shipment.

Transfer Case for Hi-Rail Truck

Cotta offers the most dependable and versatile transfer cases available that convert your truck engine power for a wide range of onsite work capabilities. Cotta’s heavy-duty transfer cases are optimized for vocational truck, custom chassis, well drilling, oil field service, and specialty truck applications.  They provide up to 800 HP and 22,000 Lb-Ft of input torque, and offer modular concepts that help minimize your inventory and maximize application flexibility.

Cotta’s engineers have designed heavy-duty transfer cases for many decades, and can offer hundreds of proprietary designs to best match your power equipment requirements. An example of an application in which Cotta has been a go-to solution provider for transfer cases is in hi-rail trucks.  In these types of applications, the vehicles need to be able to go as fast forwards on a rail as they do backwards.  Since that is not possible with a regular truck transmission, Cotta’s forward reverse transfer case has been a great solution for companies in the hi-rail truck market.

Right Angle Drives

Cotta Transmission’s complete product line supports a wide variety of industries and applications, where demanding performance is required under the most extreme working conditions and challenging environments.   Cotta designed and manufactured these right angle drives for a customer that uses the gearboxes in pavement grinders.  In this system, a drum hangs underneath the gearbox, and the two output shafts on the gearbox drive the grinding wheel.

Senior Buyer Position

The Senior Buyer is a key member of the purchasing team and is responsible to, validate, communicate, and implement sourcing strategies for Cotta Transmission Company LLC. The Senior Buyer will be responsible for learning company purchasing policies and procedures, while maintaining inventory levels required for effective company operation, conducting regular price comparisons to ensure that the company is always getting the best TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) for each product purchased.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers
  • Prepares and executes negotiations seeking TCO contracts and beneficial commercial agreements with suppliers
  • Issues bid requirements, selects suppliers, and places PO’s in accordance with company policies
  • Develops ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance, and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement

  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages
  • Must be able to calculate accurate cost savings for goods and services
  • Must have the ability to work in or lead cross-functional teams

107 Combined Years of Employment at Cotta for Family

Some of the most challenging aspects of a business these days is not only finding good workers, but retaining them. Long-term employees reflect a stable work environment, and can improve morale within a company. A company that has employees who have been employed for many years have good knowledge of the company’s products, services, and culture.  Many have performed various job duties, which gives them a strong knowledge base, resulting in higher productivity with fewer mistakes.

Cotta Transmission has been in business over 100 years, and has been fortunate to have had multiple generations of families work for the company. One family that falls under this category is the Powers family.  This week Cal Powers celebrated his 45th year of employment at Cotta.   Cal’s father-in-law worked at Cotta for 38 years, and had encouraged Cal to join the team back in 1977.  Cal was first hired to run drills, and later learned other operations on the floor, including mills, grinders, and is currently lead stocker.  What makes this milestone even more special is that Cal works along side his son Chris Powers, who is now in his 24th year at Cotta.  Chris started at Cotta on a split shift when he was 18 years old.  Throughout the years Chris also learned other operations, including saws, assembly, supervising position, purchasing, and most recently shipping clerk.  The three family members have worked at Cotta for a combined total of 107 years.  Chris and Cal both reflected on their time working together, and both commented that the biggest benefit has been that they get to see each other every day.  Not only has time together benefited this father son duo, but the experience that they have gained over the years has also played a key role in Cotta’s success.

Transfer Cases for Guardrail Trucks

Cotta has some more transfer cases that are in the process of being painted and will soon be ready to ship. The transfer cases are used as creep drives in guardrail trucks, and gives the ability to creep at a very low consistent speed without being affected by the speed of the engine.  This allows the auxiliary systems to utilize the required power to effectively perform the work that is needed.  The vehicle is able to drive at normal speed once the system is disengaged.
